Katie Hunholz – Supporting, Encouraging and Educating Missionary Kids
Growing up, Katie witnessed the testimony of her parents- her dad being a pastor in a liberal denomination. Despite many rejections and subsequent moves, her family continued to pursue God’s calling. Katie served God on short-term mission trips to India, Nepal, and the Philippines. She spent many summers as a camp counselor, relishing her work with children and teaching God’s Word. Graduating from Taylor University with degrees in biology and environmental science, Katie moved to Granbury, Texas where she spent 7 years working as an informal educator at a zoo. Despite her love of animals, Katie believed God was calling her to become a teacher in a classroom setting. In 2019, she found her niche teaching middle school students at a local Christian school. She cherished the relationships she built with her students and the growth she observed in their lives. Katie also used her teaching ability to minister to children through various programs in her home church. While on a mission trip in July 2023, God drew her heart back to the mission field, revealing the importance of supporting missionary kids. Katie realized that God was redirecting her career. From the testimony of her parents, her itinerant childhood, her desire for missions, her passion for serving children, and her experience as a teacher- God reminded her of the pieces of her life that were now culminating in her call to missions. God has opened the door for Katie to serve as a middle school teacher at Grace International School in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Katie desires to enable missionaries to fulfill the Great Commission by providing missionary kids with strong academics and serving as a mentor to her students- modeling Christ-like behavior and reminding them that their identity is found in Christ alone.
